It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Okay, now you have finished singing Christmas songs in your head (!), I don’t mean Christmas, I mean Opening Day, and how brilliant was it?! I have to admit I was pretty nervous about whether there would even be baseball at Progressive Field, with all the snow in Cleveland. There was still 8-10 inches of snow on the field the day before ,but the grounds crew did a wonderful job of getting it cleared and ready for the game. The game time...

Isaiah 41:13

This is the perfect bible verse for when you are feeling a bit alone or maybe not quite sure what to do. A perfect reminder that God has a plan for us, and he will help us to get to where we need to be. For I am the lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

The simple ones are the best

Sometimes, the simple songs are the best ones, and the ones that resonate the most. I downloaded an album called ‘How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites Live from the Grand Ole Opry‘ from iTunes, and this song is on it The version on the album is by Vince Gill, but there was no video for that on YouTube. I did find this version which is very similar. There are not many words to the song, and no extra bells and whistles, but they are...

Rocket Fuel for Breakfast?!

I don’t know what the White Sox had for breakfast yesterday but it must have been bloody good! 18-1 over the Athletics. Now I get that they aren’t the best team in baseball and it is still spring training, but that was pretty awesome! I was watching the game on Gameday on my iPhone because it wasn’t available as a free spring training game, but I couldn’t stop watching. The 4th inning had to be the best, I think any time...

Jesus Take The Wheel

This is one of my favourite Carrie Underwood songs. I love the words to it. None of us can do this on our own, we need to give Jesus control and let him guide us to what is right. Jesus take the wheel Take it from my hands Cause I can’t do this on my own I’m letting go So give me one more chance Save me from this road I’m on Jesus take the wheel

Philippians 4:6

My favourite bible verse is Philippians 4:13, but this one from earlier in the chapter is a very close second. It is very close in meaning to verse 13, which is probably why they are both my favourites. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

James 4:7

This quote was in Josh Hamilton’s book – Beyond Belief. It is a story of his descent into and recovery from drug addiction, and it was this quote that helped him to recover from the depths of crack addiction while living in his Grandmother’s house. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Samuel 16:7

I think this verse is particularly apt in our society, where so much value is placed on appearance. It may sound like a cliché to say “It’s what’s on the inside that counts”, but it’s so true. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the...

Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

I’ve always been quite a worrier, so when Michael Schlact put this quote on Twitter, it seemed perfect! Not much else to say really, other than follow him cos he’s a great guy! “Worrying is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.”

The Way He Was Raised

When I first listened to this song, I was kind of half listening to the words thinking it was an okay song, then it got to the end and it hit me, all of a sudden it made sense. Now it’s one of my favourite songs, I just love the story and how it builds right to the end. ‘Cause that’s just the way He was raised When people start to gossip, He’d just walk away He always loved his neighbor no matter what they’d...

The Shoebox

I love this song by Chris Young, the words are lovely – and it reminds me of the box full of memories that I have collected over the last 10 or so years. Don`t forget the little moments They`re the ones that mean the most When the way home seems so far away Take `em out and hold them close And take a picture with your father Cause one day he`ll be gone And don`t forget to fill an old shoe box Full of things to look back on

Merry Christmas

Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Holes in the Floor of Heaven

I love the words of this song by Mark Wills. Every time it comes on in my car, it makes me a bit teary. The words are so perfect, and it is sung beautifully. I’ve just put the chorus here, but the entire song is amazing. Cos there’s holes in the floor of heaven and her tears are pourin down that’s how you know she’s watchin, wishing she could be here now. and sometimes if your lonely , just remember she can...

Loved Ones

This is read every year at the Lights of Love service at Wheatfields Hospice. It’s a really lovely poem, with such a beautiful meaning. My Grandad was cared for at Wheatfields and they do such fantastic work. It’s nice to go back each year to support them. So many Christmas memories, Now touched by gentle tears Of Christmas shared with loved ones Left as precious souvenirs. The warmth of smiles and laughter, That extra special...
