After spending a lot of money on repairing my car recently, all the oil leaking out of the tank was the final straw, so I decided to give it up and get a new car. I picked it up on Thursday last week and I love it!! It’s got a smaller engine than my last car (1.3 instead of 1.4) but it is so much more powerful. It’s a diesel car rather than petrol (must remember when I go to the petrol station!), so the engine sounds (and behaves) a lot differently. I’m still getting used to how differently it drives, but after a trip down to Sheffield yesterday to see Vicky, I think I’m getting there. It drives so much smoother than my old car, and it’s so much nicer inside and out. I was thinking about getting another second hand car, but after the bad experience with my last one, I decided to get a brand new one. It’s £100 cheaper on road tax, and supposedly does 70 mpg (as opposed to about 30 on my old car). It was expensive but totally worth it!
Happy Anniversary to my Mum and Dad. 27 years!! Here’s to 27 (and many) more!!
I read a post on Tumblr this weekend which said that any baseball player that had admitted to taking steroids in the past should have any records removed from them, and shouldn’t be considered for admission into the baseball Hall of Fame. Now I don’t claim to know much about baseball, having only started following a team in 2004, and only watching it properly in 2008, but I don’t really think that is fair.
If a player took steroids before it was banned, then there shouldn’t be a problem with that. You can’t punish someone for doing something that was legal at the time. Yes, they may have known that they had an unfair advantage, but they were allowed to do it at the time.
I do agree that if someone has taken steroids since they were banned, they should have any records earned during that period taken away from them. It’s not fair that they can knowingly cheat the system so that they can win games, and earn their own personal records. They knew that it was wrong, so they should be penalized for it.
I know there are going to be discussions about this for a long time, but it would be a shame to punish some of the baseball greats for things they have done in the past.
I was up at 7 this morning to drive Vicky to work, so I thought rather than go home and back to bed, I would go for a walk with my brother. We went to Golden Acre Park, as we used to go there all the time with my Gran and my Mum when we were younger. I wanted to take a lot of pictures, but Frank has the patience of a five year old so wouldn’t stand still for long enough. I did manage to get a few decent pictures (I think). I would have had more if I had known how to use my camera, and if Frank hadn’t been either shaking the branches or me!
I love how fresh the air feels early in the morning, and the dew was still on the flowers, so I could have had some good photos if I had looked into how to use the Macro mode on my camera. Frank’s impatience cost me a great photo as well. We were stood looking over the lake, and Frank decided he wanted to go. Just as we turned around and started walking off, a flock of geese flew in over the lake and landed in formation. I’d already turned my camera off, and a woman walking her dog walked past and said ‘That would have been a good photo’. No kidding…
It was my birthday on Thursday, and it was ace. I was working, so I didn’t get to see my family until the evening, but I had a really good day. I went out for a quick drink with Mike at lunchtime, and when I got back there was a huge bunch of flowers and a card on my desk from everyone at work. The flowers are gorgeous, and a brilliant surprise. I had them on my passenger seat on the way home from work, and everytime I looked out my passenger window, it made me smile 🙂
When I got home from work I got to open all my presents, and my family got it exactly right! Vicky bought me 21 separate presents, which took ages to open! I love all of them.
I got money from my Grandma, so on Friday night I went to IKEA and bought some new book shelves for my room. I really need to stop buying new books. I got my latest order from the Book People, and I realised I’d bought 25 new books (some of them are in sets). It’s gonna take forever to read them all!
As it’s 9 days until my 21st birthday, I thought I’d post a couple of pics of the best birthday cakes I’ve had. My favourite one when I was younger was pink ballet shoes that my dad made, but recently, I’ve had two ace cakes. First was on my 16th birthday, and my best friend made it for me.
Then there was the cake that my family made me for me 20th birthday last year. This is my all time favourite cake, and I still have no idea how they managed to keep it a secret!
I’ve always loved July. not just because it’s my birthday month, but because it was always the month that we broke up for the holidays, so it was always the start of summer. Not only is it my birthday, it’s my best friend’s birthday, my brother’s birthday and my Aunt’s birthday. So I woke up on the first of July and I knew it was going to be a good month. 6 days in and I already know I was right. Waddington was amazing. I’ve already started adding my pictures (it’s going to take me forever to process them all), and it’s also Sunderland air show at the end of the month. A day at the beach watching the air show, what could be better? I may restrain myself on the picture taking though, if only so I don’t have to spend so long editing them all!
Today is my best friend Abi’s 21st birthday! We’ve known each other since we were 13, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend, she’s great!! I’m really looking forward to her birthday meal this weekend 🙂
