Colours of Day

We used to sing this hymn in Primary school, and it was always one of my favourites. Looking at all the snow outside, the words ‘Light up the fire and let the flame burn’ sounded very comforting this morning!

Colours of day dawn into the mind
The sun has come up, the night is behind.
Go down in the city, into the street,
And lets give the message to the people we meet

So light up the fire and let the flame burn
Open the door, let Jesus return
Take seeds of his spirit, let the fruit grow,
Tell the people of Jesus, let his love show.

Go through the park, on into the town,
The sun still shines on, it never goes down.
The light of the world is risen again,
The people of darkness are needing our friend.

So light up the fire and let the flame burn
Open the door, let Jesus return
Take seeds of his spirit, let the fruit grow,
Tell the people of Jesus, let his love show.

Open your eyes, look into the sky,
The darkness has come, the sun came to die.
The evening draws on, the sun disappears,
But Jesus is living and his Spirit is near.

Don’t Laugh at Me

I first heard this song on an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, when Mark Wills sung it to a little girl who had been burned really badly. I fell in love with the song and the words, it’s just beautiful. Here’s the lyrics to the chorus, and I’ve put the video below if you want to listen to it. Amazing.

Don’t laugh at me
Don’t call me names
Don’t get your pleasure from my pain
In God’s eyes we’re all the same
Someday we’ll all have perfect wings
Don’t laugh at me

Spanish Lords Prayer

I got a Spanish/English Bible last year for Christmas, which has Spanish down one side of the page and English down the other. I thought it would help me improve my Spanish. Not so much, but I do like this.

Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos
Santificado sea tu nombre
Amen

Romans 8: 38-39

For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, not any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord

Remembrance

I’ve just watched the Songs of Praise Remembrance special, and this poem was read. It’s a poem that is now synonymous with Remembrance day and captures the feelings perfectly.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Extract from For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon

This put me in mind of af a poem which I read last year:

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savoured much;
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Thank God

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God

I heard this quote last year and it really stuck with me. It reminds me that God is with us through everything, and we should be thankful for everything that he does for us.

John 3:16

This is one of my favourite bible verses, and I made this poster a few years ago. I spent ages collecting the letters from my mum’s magazines and then getting them stuck on the page. I love how much this one verse conveys and how much it reflects God’s love for us.SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Modern Day Lords Prayer

God in heaven, you’re our Dad.
We respect everything you stand for,
We want others to.
Please bring heaven on earth.
People living life your way, like the angels do.
Please bring us what we need to keep us going each day.
Please acquit us, as we cancel our grievances and throw them all away.
Please pull us back from the edge of evil,
If we’re falling or being thrown,
Cos you’re all that matters,
You’re able to do it and you’re to take the credit.
You’re on your own.
It’s your throne.
Absolutely!
Taken from The Word on The Street by Rob Lacey
This is an amazingly written interpretation of the bible, written in modern language, and reads a lot like a novel. A brilliant read, and all the more amazing by the fact that it was written while Rob Lacey was battling cancer. Sadly he lost the battle after he wrote the follow-up book – The Liberator.

New Car!

After spending a lot of money on repairing my car recently, all the oil leaking out of the tank was the final straw, so I decided to give it up and get a new car. I picked it up on Thursday last week and I love it!! It’s got a smaller engine than my last car (1.3 instead of 1.4) but it is so much more powerful. It’s a diesel car rather than petrol (must remember when I go to the petrol station!), so the engine sounds (and behaves) a lot differently. I’m still getting used to how differently it drives, but after a trip down to Sheffield yesterday to see Vicky, I think I’m getting there. It drives so much smoother than my old car, and it’s so much nicer inside and out. I was thinking about getting another second hand car, but after the bad experience with my last one, I decided to get a brand new one. It’s £100 cheaper on road tax, and supposedly does 70 mpg (as opposed to about 30 on my old car). It was expensive but totally worth it!
